You've been asking to use different stitches on your machines for a while..... So here is the ideal project! We've made cushions before.... But there's always room for a new cushion!, we've even made them for The County Show - BUT not with Free Motion & Appliqué .... The process of Appliqué is worth learning, you can applique pieces onto clothing [cover up a hole in jeans maybe!] Now, you can attach your chosen images to your base fabric with a product called 'Bondaweb' or 'Steam-a-Seam'.... there are many on the market - but we wanted to show you it can be done with just a dab of glue to hold it in place..... There are thousands of pictures and design suggestions on Pinterest for you to choose from, we're going to show you how to get a 'handle' on Free Motion stitching..... and Appliqué too...... in the coming weeks we will have different ideas to show you..... use some of those fancy stitches on your machine - like Blanket Stitch or over edge stitch..... Zig-Zag or Satin Stitch ..... even have a go at 'Couching'!! [perfect for stems!!]. The Theme for this class ....... is Autumn...... Which could be Fireworks, or Jam..... Halloween or Vegetables growing.... think outside the box on the subject..... Your fabric could be Velvet or Silk..... you might choose to make it as a garden cushion ..... and use a Calico or a Drill type fabric.... denim even! To do 'Free-Motion' stitching, you'll need to have a Free Motion Foot, sometimes referred to as a darning foot or open toe foot..... some of the newer machines will come with one already - so you might have one and not know what its for! H33 - CUSHION – Autumn theme - max 60cm x 60cm - with applique and embroidery. The embroidery can be either by hand or free motion machine embroidery; but NOT an embroidery machine. -There is always a need for a new cushion or two…… and since y’all know how to apply piping to the outside…. Or maybe pom pom edging, tassels or a frill….. Rather than putting a zip in for the closure.... we will use an envelope back to the cushion cover..... to which you could [if you wanted] add decorative buttons! IN YOUR KIT:- Will be embroidery Stabilizer and Thick/Thin, along with a cushion pad...... 42cm or 16"....... there will be piping cord [should you wish to pipe the outside edges of your cushion - it's a skill!!] YOU NEED TO BRING:- Fabric for your cushion....... Fat quarter packs will work very well for this [unless you choose to make your cushion bigger] .....a piece for the front & 2 pieces for the back and 1 piece for the piping trim.... [or if you wish to have both sides of your cushion in the same fabric, maybe raid your stash... you'll need at least one metre..... a co-ordinating fabric for the piping is a good idea, which will come out of a Fat Quarter or a Long Quarter easily..] Fabrics to applique - these could be any fabric you choose, felt or canvas.... cotton or silk..... the choice is up to you! Threads - to co-ordinate with your chosen fabrics - if you are appliquéing ..... or threads to create your design if you are free motion stitching! You could even use metallic threads.... [Dig thro your threads to find something that maybe you've never used before - or something a bit different!] You might want to bring some yarns to have a go at 'couching' - the means of applying a thicker material like yarn or cord on to the face of the project - so it creates a raised image. An embroidery hoop would be useful..... [not one of those big chunky frames-just a hoop that you might hold in your hand]. Sew..... let's gather our stash.... and make some new Cushions - one for the Show and a few more for the garden maybe?? possibly even for Christmas pressies..... oooo now there's a thought! you could even appliqué a panel for a wall decoration - or for a table centre...... so many possibilities! Happy Stitching.... IF YOU ARE BOOKING FOR MORE THAN ONE PERSON - Please put the additional names into the notes on your booking!!!
